The sensor it straight forward enough - there are universal types you can use and they're not too expensive.

As for the revs hunting on start up, could be one of a few things. First thing I would check is for any air leaks in the intake system and the engine breather system. I was having a problem with my breathers (2.8 30v V6) and when they were disconnected they had the revs hunting. Start there as it's easy to check and fix.

Let us know how you get on, if there are no issues with air leaks then it may be the MAF.

ive looked at a few of the breathers and they are those brittle fiber hoses which a few are frayed and im just going to change the them for rubber i have been told it could be the maf by the aa but hoses first

ONLY DO THIS IF YOU'RE A TRAINED PROFESSIONAL

Sometimes an easy way to check for intake air leaks is to spray a combustable product at your possible leak sites. If there is a leak the fluid will find a way in and for a few moments you will usually hear the engine run better as either the engine burns what you've sprayed or the leak is reduced. WD-40 will work but you get left with the wd-40 residue where you've sprayed it or cleaning sprays can work too.
Im not saying blow anything up, and it doesn't work on exhausts but it can help when access or visibility is a pain.
