    Hi All,

    I've got myself a Passat Highline 1900TDi 100PS with a 5spd Box.

What's needed to change the box to a 6spd?
    I.e. Gbox Code - lever - linkage
and does the Clutch and DMF need to be replaced too?

or at 52MPG, should i leave it as it is??

it has a little bit of a whine when turning corners and if i hold my hand on the gearlever (pushing down a bit)

    Thanks In Advance.

    Wayne.

Working on the basis of if it ain't broke don't fix it, I would suggest you leave well alone. The benefits of changing to a 6 speed are marginal (at best). You have got good MPG and I would say it won't improve with a 6 speed. Cheers.

From what I understand the overall top gear ratio is the same on both 5 and 6 speed gearbox's - the 6 speed box is just a closer ratio version between 1 and 5 - so changin the box will make negliable difference in MPG ..... you'd be better off putting your 'box money into a re-map

Thanks Guys, but I'm getting more concerned with the whinning noise.
it appears when i turn a left hand corner OR when i have my hand on the GearLever when in 4th and i can feel it through the lever too.

And sometimes.... it get clunky getting into gear!

so if the box breaks - should I:-
Go for the original 5spd (recon / rebuild)
    or
    Go for a 6Spd Box.

Coming from an 130ps A4 Quattro with 6Spd box makes me think i'm missing something (oh yeh 6th gear) and 38 - 42mpg!!

In addition - since owning the car (Feb 6th) i have done 3500 miles.

    thanks all who replied!
