After cleaning my car today i noticed that there was about 2" of water in the bulkhead due to the drain holes being blocked, i tried to unblock them but could not reach them without removing the battery so had a feel around under the bulkhead and found a large rubber bung which i have now removed to stop the water building up, it is just to the left of the battery if any body else id having this problem

This problem is probably THE most covered issue on the A4 and Passat. The problem with removing the bung/drains is that when you turn on the heater blower, fumes from under the car can be sucked into the heater and do not smell very nice and on a petrol engine, if there is an exhaust leak these fumes could contain dangerous levels of carbon monoxide.
