Allroad clicking when turning steering....

Looking for some advice please.
Car is a 2002 Allroad.When turning the steering left or right there is a ckicking sound coming from the NSF.The noise disappears when steering straight ahead.It's only audible at low speeds.
My thoughts are that it could be a CV joint but was wondering what people's thoughts may be?
Had a quick glance this afternoon and the CV boot which seems ok but i need to get a closer inspection over the weekend.Could it be a lack of grease in the joint?

Sounds like the symptoms of a worn CV joint to me. Is it worse when pulling away? I always find that cv joints make more noise when under a bit of power at full lock.

I had simliar noises on two Audi Coupes ('83 and '86), worse on lock and under power - CV joints both times.

I've had that noise on two Lancia Deltas (one of them twice), an Audi Coupe, and a Renault Megane. CV joints every time. Haven't had it on the A6, but it's probably only a matter of time.

I suspect it's a CV joint as i've had a good look around the wheel well and nothing else appears abnormal.
Also noticed the tie rod boot in poor condition so looka like i'll be on the hunt for some spares!
Can anybody recommend a reputable supplier for CV joints?
Do lemfoerder manufacture them at all?

I think eurocarparts do lemforder ones (they certainly do their bearings and track rods).

Is it just a general rule of thumb or is it a 99% certain type of thing that the bad joint is always opposite the lock? I mean the right CV is bad if the clicking is when locking left.

It's just that I have the clicking when pulling away right but I'm certain that the sound is coming from the right wheel. I know sound can travel but it really does seem to be, along with a high pitched metallic squealing/rubbing when I'm driving in a straight line.

It's usually the wheel you're turning away from which clicks (as you say). You can usually hear which one's clicking when it's bad enough. Have you tried getting someon to stand next to the car when you do it to listen?

Not sure about the squealing / rubbing when straight though.

Update :
The clicking has stopped and i'm wondering if i moved some of the grease around in the cv boot when checking it the other day.Will monitor further and see if it reappears.
