Actually, the dealer has quite good competitive prices on oils compared with other motor factors just ask for the best prices. There also oppie oils(forum sponsor!) website wich had really good offers on the Castrol EDGE 5w30 stuff. I buy oil from ECP in 20L drums but i found it cheaper in halfords as trade prices are 35.99 for 4 L wich works cheaper than the 180 quid i pay for a drum in ECP. Hope this helps !

    Chris.

Quantum 507.00 or Castrol who make quantum and nothing else. I have used Comma speced 506.00 long life oil changed every 11K miles and have worn cams to prove it. Switched to quantum 507 and no further wear even after 50K miles.

at £35.99 it is the cheapest offer for longlife 3 I have seen, also 4 X 5 litres for £114.99
just wondered if there could be a catch?? or is it the same oil as what you would get from the dealers.

    Andy
I asked the seller of the above longlife 3 (link in my previous post) and he is selling multiples of 5l of genuine quantum 507.00 oil with correct VW part number, at £36 seems a good deal. any thoughts, or something i could be missing?

The seller is a Skoda dealer with a very high eBay feedback rating, and P&P is included. I see no reason not to buy from them.

I went for the Opie oils service kit online in the end as we get 10% discount as members on here. It's a fully synthetic type and came as a 5 ltr + 1 ltr plus an oil filter package for £41.97.
    It's MOTUL brand.

As an aside to this, does anyone use or recommend any additives to add to the oil for the 2.5 engine? I would have used the likes of Lucas Oil Stabiliser on cars before but was advised once not to use them on PD engines. Not sure if the V6 is a big no-no too or if it would help the cam wear problem too.

If you add an aditive to an oil you can cancel the benefits of the oil in the first place. Many university studies have shown that these additives do nothing to improve wear, but are excellent marketing ploys. Which magazine did one for fuel additives and teh benefits were nigligible. So just buy the best quality oil and don't waste your money.

I've already treated it with ZX1 lub treatment, this coats all the metals and lasts for 100,000 miles apparently and survives future oil changes etc. I presume as it's not an oil treatment nothing will be adversely affected on the engine.

    Hi
having read this thread and being determined to do the best by my newly acquired 04 Allroad 2.5 Tdi and take it off long life servicing (its done 130k miles) with full main dealer history, I went to halfords this week who have 20 % off Castrol edge to buy 5w30 507 spec oil. But I saw turbo diesel specific fully synthetic 5w40 and bought that instead but Ive just realized that the spec is only 505 01
i haven't opened it as I was going to do the oil change this weekend so should I swap it for 5w30 507 spec which looks like a petrol engine oil ?
Also, would you advise using engine flush or is it more likely to dislodge all the cr@p and deposits and cause more trouble than its worth ?
As ever any advice greatly appreciated.
BTW the vwaudi forum is proving invaluable and has already help me fix 3 issues in the first week ! Thanks Everyone

I think I've answered my own question ! Been on Castrol web site and when I enter my reg number it comes back recommending 5w30 so it's off to halfords in the morning to swap it !
