I am new to the forum and am looking/hoping for some advice on disc brake noise on my new Audi A3 (Might be a bit long this………..).

The car is less than 3 months old, 1700 miles on the clock. From delivery the brakes (discs all round) have been giving out almost a grinding sound and making what I think is excessive noise. This is especially noticeable when driving in slow moving traffic and having to stop and start and when slowing up to traffic lights or parking etc.

I originally put this down to newness and also at the time the weather was very wet an you usually do get this after rain and the rust needs to be ‘braked off’, but this generally only takes a few presses of the pedal.

btw the last three cars I have had I bought from new and I have never come across this before.

I have booked the car in with the dealer to get it checked out, but I was hoping to get some views from this community as to whether this is something that is a ‘feature’ (I hope not), as on some other forums I get the impression it is not uncommon, and to have something to say to the dealer if I don’t get the response I would like. Maybe I am just getting paranoid about, but it is taking the edge of what is otherwise a fine car.

    Help…………

just recently i had new pads and discs fitted to my car, i had exactly the same thing i removed the caliper and checked and the pad had been fitted backwards, it was a grinding noise like metal to metal rubbing only when pressing the brake, is it only one wheel doing this?

No, it sounds pretty much like all round, only on brake application. It's as if the pads are worn down tho the brakes are effective.
