Morning guys new member here. After reading and learning a hell of lot from this forum i decided to purchase an Allroad 2004 2.5tdi yesterday and i am well chuffed with it.

I have noticed that it does not contain the detachable tow hook in the spare wheel mount in the boot. Has a previous owner pinched this from the car or where they an optional extra? i had a feeling they were standard issue.

    cheers

    Fraser.

Welcome to the allroaders , I believe the towbars come as an option, look under/behind the rear bumper to see if the location for the removable section exists. The Original westfillia option is a tapered shaft with 2 lugs and, if original, a red plastic cap for when the tow hook is not mounted.

If so I have seen the westfillia detachable part come up in e-bay from time to time.

    regards

    Andy

I think the OP is referring to the tow hook not tow bar. The Tow Hook for rescue and a tow is standard issue with the car and should be with the tool kit with the Jack. Regards Peter

On my Avant the towing eye is located with the jack etc in a plastic box hidden away in a compartment on the left hand side of the boot area (looking from the rear of the car). this compartment also holds a spare oil bottle, and on some cars a 6 cd changer.
The Westfalia detachable tow bar sits inside the spare wheel under the boot floor.

Dooh, you do mean the tow bar then. Why someone took I dod not know. Was the car from a garage or a private sale, either way ask them if they have it. Regards Peter

Peter is right, go back to where you bought the car from and ask them for it - they may just have forgotten to put it in the car. But check first that you actually have the rest of the tow bar fitted otherwise it could get embarrasing . . .
I did see just the detachable bit for sale on Ebay a couple of weeks ago, but can't remember how much for.

Stick your head under the back of the car, look up, and you should see a big round socket, possibly with a black or red plug in it, and next to it a spring loaded pull down electrical socket. At least that's what's on my Avant.
