Hi, I have a strange problem with my 02 A4. Ive searched but cant find anyone with the same symptoms.

The light came on and is on for 80% of the time. Occassionally it will go off and stay off for the duration of the journey, however if I turn the ignition off and on again it comes back on!

I had someone try to diagnose it, but he said he couldnt talk to the Airbag module so I needed one of those costing around £600. However after telling him that it does go off sometimes he wasnt too sure.

Anyone got any ideas what it could be?

The fault may be with his diagnostic tool, that he is unable to enter the unit,i suggest you get someone else to read a fault code for you.before spending £600

Mine became intermittant for a few days and hasnt been on since. I fiddled with wires under the drivers seat as I had a drinks bottle end up underneath so hoping it was something mystical but would be interested to see what you find

I have had a little play under the seats, but will play some more just incase. I can just see the airbags exploding.

Definately get it plugged into a dealer diagnostic system (expensive) or get someone with vcds to run a scan for you... then you'll know for sure. There is a common problem in the VAG range with the wiring under the front seats becoming worn over time, but there's no way to know for sure without a scan.

Don't worry about airbags going off, when the airbag warning is on in the dash, all airbags are automatically disabled for safety's sake - don't want them going off whilst someone is driving.

Benjie, can I ask where you got you rs4 arb from and how much it cost. I need to replace mine and have seen people on here saying it costs around £80 but cannot find it for less than £200.
