Hi guys, I bought a 99 V Reg A3 1.9TDI 110HP last month and now it asks for service (86000 miles).

Its y first service so I don't know anything about how much is going to cost.

Could you please give me some £££ figures from your experience regarding servicing in an Audi garage ?

Do you have any recommendation for the SE London area ?

    All the best ...

I suggest you go to your local Halfords store and buy the right oil (5w30 Castrol edge SLX3)and filter for your car, then go to your local GSF or Euro Car parts for the polen and air filters then buy the Haynes workshop/repair manual and get your hands dirty. It will only take one afternoon and you'll have the satisfaction of a job well done ! If needs to, the brake pads could be replaced as well, as per manual...unless you really want that dealer stamp on the service history book...!!! A full service at the dealers will cost in excess of 400 pounds, a bit steep por a set of filters and a 50 pounds worth of oil...Get a good set of spanners from halfords and get to work. Regards, Chris.

Hi, thanks for that. This is something I am sure I will be able to do but I dont know if this the right thing to do as I just bought the car and do not know exactly its condition.

My idea is that by getting the car to a AUDI/VW specialist I might pay something more but will be able to know of any kind of problems that the car has.

If for example he says that my break pads need changing I will tell him not to fix them as I will go and do it my self. Same thing for Oil filters etc

Therefore I am asking if anyone in this forum has any recommendation for AUDI/VW Specialist garage ??

    Thanks

Just got my s reg 1.8t serviced at local vw/audi specialist and it cost me just under £500 but i also had rear brakes done and timing belt. The guy at the garage said it would of cost double that for audi to have done it.

That's great value as a timing belt change alone can typically cost £700 from an Audi dealer.

    Where is this garage?

I got my T reg 1.8T serviced at West London Audi and the full service + brakes + 4 Pirelli tyres (much needed) came to just over £1000. £££ I know but A) I got the Audi stamp in the car's perfect Audi service history and B) it gave me peace of mind that the job had been done by someone who knows Audis well.
They then told me that the cam belt needed changing which meant the water filter as well. They quoted me another grand including VAT. I bought the parts at German Swedish and got my local garage to do it all for under £400 total (including parts).

So I reckon you should get the car serviced at Audi and get major work needed somewhere cheap (but reliable).

audi dealers tend to rip off customers, so be careful. i took mine in for a diagnostic, they said i needed the following:

water coolant temp sensor @ 108.00
    o/s/f ABS sensor @ 191.00
    and cambelt replacement @ 352.00

i was shocked, told em i didnt wanna get it done and they said, ok but you will need to pay for a diagnostic ( as i gave the car in to see why my abs light was coming on )..i thought, fair enough..how much?
    and they said £94.00!!
at 1st i was surprised as the last dealer diagnostic i got done cost me £24 - honda though, so i asked if i got the temp sensor changed, would i need to still pay for the diagnostic? they replied no, so i got that done instead.

got home and rang audi for the abs sensor ( pretended to be someone else ) they quoted me £50 for sensor and £90 labour.. cheaper this time, but still chose not to order it. looked on Ebay for the sensor..found one for £15! got it in 2 days, fitted it myself ( 30mins max ) and all ok now!

next is my cambelt, called german and swedish - £52.50 for cambelt kit, local garage ( does very good jobs ) quoted £120 labour.. so ive booked it in with them and will get the work done soon..

all in all... enquire around b4 deciding to pay audi an excessive amount of money...

I gave up getting my car serviced at main dealers when block exemption came in (http://www.dti.gov.uk/consumers/fact...page38070.html)
Basically means anybody can service your car if they use Audi parts.

I got my 1.8 A3 serviced by a company called Prestige for £219, which was a major service. However this was plus vat, which they failed to mention . Still worked out cheaper then main Audi dealer. (http://www.prestigecarservicing.com/audiservice.html)
