Had my 05 plate 1.9TDI Golf MOT'd today. It passed no probs. The dealer always does an "Express Visual Check" form when you take a car in. Under "advisory" it said "Slight Oil Leak on Boost Pipes." This is a turbo issue

Told not essential it was done straightaway but best looked at at some stage.

Is this a serious fault? How much should it cost to put right? How long could/should I leave it - oil level is fine.

Sorry to "bump" this. Just wondered if anyone had any ideas?

    Cheers.

It's probably a small leak through the Turbo Bearings . Most VAG Turbo TDI engines have it. As long as it's not a massive leak I would not worry about it. You don't say what mileage you have on the engine but the turbos all leak a bit as the mileage gets above 80,000. It's important you use the correct oil and change it regularly to preserve the turbo bearings i.e. as per the VAG manual.

Had the car serviced today and the oil leak was mentioned again. £118 to put right.

More detail this time "Oil Leak from engine both boost pipe seals to turbo leaking and OS intercooler seal leaking."

On the technicians report it was down as immediate attention but told not urgent by the service manager. Most of the oil is captured by the sump cover/shield apparently and I haven't noticed any drips on the floor or any noticeable increase in oil consumption.

An hours labour to do the job.

    Worth doing or not?
