    Hi All,

I've had the fun task of removing the sump from my A6 Tdi this week, and during the process found that one of the engine mounts/dampers appeared to be leaking a red oil.

Having googled the various terms that I could think of, there's not much to tell me if the mounts do actually contain oil or I'm just going nuts.

Can anyone advise? Does a leak mean replacement? Are there any considerations I should be making while I'm stripped?

    Thanks!

Are you referring to a mount or the torque reaction support at the front of the engine. Some TDI mounts have an elastomeric fluid in them to damp down the low end frequencies. How thick is the fluid. There are not repairable. Regards Peter

    Hi Peter,

    Thanks for the quick response.

It's one of the engine mounts: http://www.autohausaz.com/secure/Par...8D0199379K.jpg

The fluid is quite thick, I would guess at a damping fluid rather than a lube.

Oddly, the driver's side mount looks different to the opposing side, and also has a dust cover. I wondered if a previous owner might have replaced it with an upgraded, aftermarket version.

According to ebay - which appears to have some - it's a 'hydro-mount', although they only seem to be for the right hand side. Is it likely that only one is 'hydro', because of the direction of spin of the crank?
