hi all, ive just bought another mk4 golf, but this time a 1.6 SE.
Thought it was just me at first seeing as ive just gone from a Leon Cupra to a 1.6 golf , im finding that when you put your foot down or try to accellerate hard it doesnt want to and is really slow, no fault codes are showing up. Any ideas?

Probably needs a service as a guess, air filters & plugs (fuel filter but unlikely)

Could be so many things, will list a few below:

    Throttle body adaption
    Throttle body dirty
    Blocked/clogged exhaust pipe
    HT coil
    Distrubutor
    Sparkplugs
    Fuel Pump
    Fuel Filter
    Blocked Injectors

Hope it will be enough to get you started, hopefully some people can chip in to help

It may (heaven forbid) be slower than your leon, but for the fact it struggles up hills suggests something isnt right to me. If you post your engine model code maybe someone can assist you

Hi, newbie here, well as far as posting goes, but just spotted this thread. I bought a Mk4 golf a couple of years back, 39000 miles , and recent full service by VW including cam belt change. Mine has always been sluggish on hills, but because of the full service thought that that's just how they were, otherwise shouldn't they have found the fault? So if you do find a cause for it can you please let us know?
    ATB Kev.

Cheers mate, I'll give that a go as I've been using standard unleaded.

is it possible its the 1.6 engine thats sluggish? , i wouldnt be expecting it to wheelspin uphills in 3 rd gear thats for sure

i dont know about your car but i know on mine the maf airflow meter can cause loss of power/sluggishness, its a wearing part.... if i was you i would do some research on 1.6 maf see if it finds anything.

the airflow meter did cross my mind.. usually a fault code would show up for that wouldnt it? stuck my computer thingy on the golf and no faults show up... be awesome if it did spin in 3rd going up hills though haha.. so tempted to get another cupra again despite the awfull fuel consumption.. boost is fun!
