Hi guys, i have just looked at and agreed to buy a A4 1.9TDI Quattro Sport Avant. Mechanically the car seems very good, and too be honest doesn't look like it has done high mileage. The only snag is that it has covered 170,000 miles. It was serviced by Audi until 164,000 and then by a VAG specialist. My question is, is there any thing specific i should be wary of with this high mileage?

My first impressions are that everything feels incredibly tight steering and suspension wise. I know the clutch is likely to be a week spot at these miles, but i couldn't detect and slip. The only mechanical thing i can find is that the front discs are shot.

    Any pointers greatly received.

    Thanks

    Matt

What year/model is that ? If the early b5 then fear not, they are really strong engines and will go- on and on ! If the later b6 model, the chassys is better but the engines are nowhere near as strong as the early ones but they will still do 200k with right maintenance ! Stay away from Longlife service intervals on later PD engines.

It is a B6 shape. The turbo was replaced at 150k, so no worries there. i am sure that some of the suspension must have been replaced at the major services, given how tight it feels. Any quattro issues at this mileage?

Will definitely be taking it off long life service too. Never had faith in it on newer cars, let alone ones with this mileage!!!

Providing it has been maintained regularly, then there isn't really alot to look out for. Some bits of the car will wear out, but that's the same risk as on a 80,000 mile car!
