do bigger alloy wheels cause bushing problems on vw passat (i.e. rs6,s on 2003 passat)

I am interested in buying some 18" RS6 alloy wheels for my 2003 passat, but i have been told by a number of people that the bigger wheels can cause problems with the bushings on the passats.

does anybody know if this is true or has anybody had this problem themselves when they fitted bigger alloys.
