    Hi every1.
ive just started to have a go at changing cv boot when i came to losen the pinch bolt that holds the 2 upper suspension arms and the nut has snapped off.
Has any1 got any ideas on how to remove the pinch bolt now that the nut has broke off?
any help would be great thanx

Well for a start, you do not have to loosen the upper arms,to replace the cv boot, however, there is only one way to remove the bolt now and that is heat, unfortunatley the ball joints will be destroyed,so you are looking at 2 new upper suspension arms.there is a special tool for removing the bolt, but in most cases when the bolt is seized the tool is of no use,and heat is the only alternative

ive always used a very big hammer and punch after soaking in penetrating oil and never had to destroy any arms, did have to remove complete hub once to get enough of a swing

the bolt has snapped so you can imagine how hard the bolt is seized, you can hammer from now to the cows come home and you will never get that bolt out without heat

    keep hitting it
owned 8 b5s plus bought some s4 hubs with arms attached and got every pinch bolt out eventually! sheared 3 or 4 bolts, had to remove a one assembly, and soak a few overnight though, oh and one actually came straight out
kenny out of interest do you know which way bolt is in from factory thread towards car or wheel?

not sure what you mean [QUOTE]bolt towards car or wheel, the bolt i'am referring to is fitted first in the rear upper arm, which means the nut is to the front of the vehicle

There is a way to remove the top bolt without heat, the trouble is the set costs around £500 from Klann. I do CV’s by removing the two lower joints but that can still be fun without the tools.

That is the tool i was referring to,but as i said previously if the bolt is really seized, the tool is'nt worth tuppence,we have given it up as a bad job, broken three of them, have a fourth one lying in a cupboard somewhere for intern quality control use only
