Hi all. I am looking for a bit of advise. I have a Polo 1.2 petrol 2002. The engine has started shaking, the car has no power and it sounds as though the engine is about to drop out of the bottom of the car. Even with the accelerator pedal flat to the floor in 2nd gear the car barely moves. Does anyone know what this could be? I do not want to take the car to a garage, only for them to charge me a fortune to put it on a diagnostic machine. I was wondering if it could be just needing new spark plugs or coil packs (if it has coil packs)??
    Any help would be appreciated.

I should add that the Emissions light on the dash is on permenantely as well.

Distributor...HT leads...what are they? Not seen those on a car engine for quite a while. More likely it will be a coil pack that's gone down. But then again, it could be a dud spark plug, injector, valves or a problem with the wiring. Glen will have to do a bit of diagnosis to figure out which it is.

Had a look at the car today and ended up replacing a split hose and one coil pack. Car is now running great, does not sound so much like a tractor and no longer shakes. Thanks for your thoughts. Saved me the bother and cost of having to take it to a garage.

The only thing that is now puzzling me is that the emmisions light is still on, on the dash. Could this just be because it needs resetting by the dealer or could it be the sign of a damaged lamda sensor, or something else?

Once again, any thoughts would be appreciated.

Yep, you need to clear your DTC memory.(fault codes)

You could probably do with generating a new readiness code too, although not essential.

    Hope this helps.

How do I go about clearing the fault code? Do I have to take it to a dealer?
