Whilst accessing the bonnet on a MK5 Golf the handle finally gave way. Am reasonably confident that it is the plastic handle as when i removed it i could feel the cable was under tension and the little plastic retaining clip was broken!

I have sourced the part for a few quid and am now going to attempt to change it, so am after advice hints or tips.

    Thanks

I had a similar scare around Christmas. All of a sudden it became more and more difficult to open my bonnet. I tried on and off for about a week, but the clip moved but wouldn't release.

When I finally freed it when the engine was cold, I put a big lump of grease and wd40ed and (touchwood) its been fine ever since.

May be worth doing when next checking oil etc.
