I have had this problem from new and the Audi dealer says no problems, but if you are travelling at say 80mph the air rushes through the vents at 80mph whatever fan speed you select. The only way to stop it is to select 're-circulate' or 'feet' & 'screen' together. .

I cut myself a restrictor plate that fits neatly under the pollen filter and all has been well for 4 years. Recently Audi found it and went berserk. They told me the heater would over-heat (yeah right) and took it out.

They said there is a new 'thicker' pollen filter that addresses the wind noise problem. I purchased one immediately (for £27.50!) but it didn't make any difference.

I've driven a lot of vehicles and I don't know any that fresh air comes in as fast as you are driving! Its like having a hole in the front of the car!

I would like to hear if anyone has this problem? Or conversely, does any one have an A4 Avant without this problem?

    Cheers. .

I am on my second A4 avant as is my son and he has had an S3 and we have driven several more and none have had this feature! It seems that there is something wrong in the vent system because all modern cars s/b draft proof and if you want air you demand this by using the blower.Controlling by using flaps takes me back to my 1956 ford days!I dont see why audi expect you to put up with this any longer and they must be joking to say it is normal

Basically the dealer has lied to you since you bought the car.

The vent system will restrict the flow of air through the cabin and there is something wrong with yours if this is not the case. You havent bought a 1972 Morris so there is no way a full blast of air should happen, IMO the dealer didnt want to face up to the cost of taking your interior apart to check all the vents so basically spun you a line.

I can be doing a 100mph and I dont get blasted in the face by air, I leave mine on Auto and job done.

I will happily stand corrected if Audi had a massive engineering blowout and designed a system so rubbish that you needed to put a restrictor plate in!!

Perhaps best you get a 2nd opinion on your system. I hope you get it sorted.

Many thanks for all your replies - I may have to print this thread and take it to show the dealer.

Kite- I can close the vents but the noise is no better as it just buffets the back of the vents (and of course I get no hot/cold air)

I've put my restrictor plate in again now and all is well - but still cant believe how Audi can thing this is normal for a 'luxury car'

BTW I wrote to Audi in Germany about this and they just referred me back to the dealer.

I would get yourself a drive in the dealers car so that they can demonstrate that it does the same as yours which it wont do or tell them we will turn up with our cars to show them that we know that they lie and your car needs sorting pdq and compensation is due for putting up with their nonsense for so long .I think we ought to have full details posted so others are warned to avoid them

Thats where the difficulty lies - I've done this and taken the workshop manager for a trip. He said, yes it was a little bit noisy but it was normal. .
