I've been toying with different headlight bulb options recently and had Ring Xenon max bulbs fitted, which are definitely brighter, but still the same yellowish hue as the standard bulbs. So i've tried a pair of LED sidelight bulbs and 6000k H1 bulbs, both of which emit a much whiter light, and cost under £10.

With respect to headlight removal, i've found i could remove both headlights fairly easily without removing or lowering the front bumper. Just be careful with the surrounding paintwork. Access to the hidden bolt through the access hole is easy if you have the appropriate long shafted screwdriver or socket. I bought one for about a fiver. However i found that in both cases the plastic circular clip on the inside of the headlight broke off. I assume this was more due to the age of the headlights and the general loss in the plastic flexibility over 11 years rather than my own clumsiness , but a warning to anyone doing this job. The three bolts still hold the headlight well, but the lower light has more flex now that the plastic clip is broken.

My question relates to the bulbs however. I cannot seem to find reliable information whether a) a white LED sidelight bulbs are MOT passable and b) whether a H1 dipped beam led bulb would also be MOT passable? You can buy the later with a number of SMD bulbs on it from asia, which i expect would look quite impressive.
