Flushed with the success of my replacing the water pump and timing belt, I now move on to the exhaust...

    A6 1999 V6 Avant Quattro 2.8 petrol

The exhausts both blow at the joint in front of the flexi bits. The local garage has redone the clamps numerous times and gunked it to high heaven, but it keeps working loose.

Is there an easy fix for this? The exhaust itself seems in fine condition - it looks like its made of stainless.

    Thanks in advance.

The front pipe bolts up to the inlet manifold on a three bolt gasket flange so I presume it is not leaking there, as that is simple to fix. The front pipe then goes down to a flexi coupling which is welded to the exhaust and then to the cat. If this coupling has failed you will have to buy new catalysts which start at around £700 each from Audi (but are available aftermarket for about half that) or take the cats off and go to an exhaust specialist and have new flex couplings welded in. These are easily available from Bosal and as a guess I would think a Bosal 265-611 would do the job although that is a type A and their type B would be better suited but they don’t do a type B in 42-mm which is the outer diameter of your down pipe.
