location of coolant temperature sensor

Hi, i have just bought a 2001 golf 2.8 v6 4 motion. The problem is a warning light came on, my mate diagnosed it as the coolant temp sensor (intermittent fault) . What is the location of the sensor and where can i get one ?

This should show you roughly what your looking for,on my diesel it was on the right hand towards the rear of the engine if you were stood looking at the front of the car

What sensor do i require , vw quoted me £33 yet on ebay they range from £10 to £25 . What is the difference ?

Coolant temp senor as you say mate,i dont know how much they are for yours but for my diesel i think it was about £22,wouldnt bother with e-bay mate for it because you want it to be correct for your car as it controls cooling,fueling etc
