    Hi All,

I have a MK3 golf TDI (S REG- BUT ESTATE SO STILL MK3) and the car seems to be lacking power on long journeys, it used to fly up any hills but now it seems really slugish, almost as if the turbo isnt kicking in.

I am not sure if it happens on short journeys as I cant really judge any difference.

Having looking around on the web there is a lot of talk of unreliable Air Flow Meter or Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF) issues for this age of golf. Which sounds like the probable cause. But is there a simple way to test if the MAF is working? as dont went to spend £70 odd quid to replace a part and be left with the same problem. Or do I need to bite the bullet and pay to have it hooked up to a computer to confirm the problem?

    Any info much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi Mate,
i had the same problem as you. Does yours if you accelerate quickly e.g over 3000rev shudder then lose power? i noticed that if u lose the power turn the engine off and then back on then the power magically re-appears.

However i changed my fuel filter 2 months ago and i have not had this problem since. Yours could be very similar?

Thanks Richie, just had a look in the Haynes manual and chaging the fuel filter looks easy. So will price one up.

yeah mate its quite easy to do. but the only problem is the big air filter pipe. i had to take that off to get at the screw for the fuel filter.
    Apart from that its easy.
