    Hi all-,
I wonder if anyone can help with a problem.
Last week- I took battery off to clear usual crap under it . I 'did' use a plug in memory-saver' (it worked ok).
However- yesterday- I switched on Sat Nav-and off I went .
Sat nav wasn't working correctly. Audio Voice said-'Position not located on a digitalised road'. It also tells me to take next turn etc- even when there is no turn to take.
Display was miles out and it remains like that.
    I think the system is a RNS4.
I have basic operating instructions--but it does not say how to check for satelite availability etc .
    Anyone got any ideas ?.
Any help would be appreciated .
    Thanks, Pete

I imagine the GPS antenna has failed. £15 from Ebay for one you can stick under the dash - cheaper and saves you dropping the headlining to access the one on the roof.

Is it the RNS-D unit you have? Google a picture if your unsure

Sorry- not too sure . Its the one with display in centre of instrument cluster --if thats any help.
Just seems strange that I had battery out few days sooner . Maybe its just coincidence ?.

Ahh you have the older BNS-4.x system then.

Could well be coincidence, if it's recognising your position wrongly then I suspect an antenna fault of some sort.

    Thanks . BNS-4X rings a bell with me .

I just think there must be some way to check if antenna-is working or not . I could be wrong though -I often am

A VAG-COM scan would point you in the right direction

    ok- thanks .
Ive just been playing around with it- and up popped info on screen .
    HW VERSION
    BNS 4.2
    SW VERSION OO4O

    Also said SATELLITES- 0 OF 8 .
Guess that says it all huh .
So- next question is - is it easy to get at back of unit to connect up a new antenna ??.
Does glovebox have to be dropped to fit antenna to the top of it .
Also- has anyone any experience of fitting one and 'does it work ok ' ?.
    Thanks

Doesnt the BNS unit live in the boot? Or is it elsewhere? Is that where you put the Nav CD? (I cant remember for the A6)

If so the antenna connection should be on the back of that?

The antennas you can get do work. I got one for £12 from Ebay for my A4 and it worked a treat. Or you can pay a fortune for a proper Audi one.

Yes-- It is in the boot . My brain didnt figure it out logically .
Feel a bit daft now !!.
I've looked on ebay- but cant tell if those antennas are suitable for BNS--it doesn't say -or type of connection-so Ive asked seller a question 2 hours ago --no reply as yet .
Nomatter how hard Ive looked on google etc-- info on BNS is very scarce .

If new antenna fits ok- question is - where to site it !!.
Theres plenty of space alongside NAV CD gubbins -under nearside wing- but would it 'work' there ?.

Another point though is antenna currently on roof--isn't too far from NAV gubbins- (unlike newer ones)--so- maybe if I cant get a ebay one-- a new proper one shouldn't be too hard to fit ?.

A new one woudnt be that hard to fit. You'd need to lower the headlining and remove a few bits of trim though I imagine. You wont get a new Audi antenna from Ebay for £10 though!

It should be the same Fakra type connector they all use these days. I'd fit a cheapo one and then move it around the rear cabin until you can find an area where it gets a good reception.
