Hi all. Im a new kid. On my second transporter. 2.4 diesel panel van. The central locking works rarely. I have checked fuses. checked there is power going every where. checked the light sensors on the doors because fuse is the same for these as the central locking. checked all the contacts at the doors. am lost. any suggestions more than welcome.

First, check the wiring harness between the A pillar and the door frame, pull back the rubber boot.If ok then check the control unit for water ingress, although i have never experienced this,i have heard of it.

I looked through various threads here as I have central locking with similar problems. I decided to risk taking it apart myself, first checking the wiring for the locking motors and the area between door and body.
Initialy this looked prety muck okay, but whilst doing this I had disconnected the rods between the door locks and the motors. From this I realised that on one door the 'popper' stayed in place, whereas on the other it kept dropping down into the locked position. Taking both locks out, I noticed that the 'good' door had a tiny spring in the mechanism that held the 'popper' in place, and that this was broken on the faulty door (the passenger side one). This was causing the locking motor to continualy drop, and try and close all the locks.
Replacing the lock mechanism with one off ebay (that does work) has solved a very annoying fault. I only managed to lock my keys in the van with the engine running once
One other point - the central locking seems very sensitive to the positioning of the locking motors. This is only by millimetres, as just by adjusting the hole where one lock was screwed onto the door, cured it from re-opening the lock intermitently.
