Hi guys wondering if you can help me

My car is blowing out smoke once it reaches temperature.. before it reaches 90 it is fine and i am able to run it for short journeys.

I have recently been to a garage because it was misfiring badly and the mechanic told me it may be the piston rings as it is allowing oil into the cylinders and that is the reason of the smoke. He also advised the misfire was due to the spark plug at cylinger 4 being covered in oil.

THe smoke only comes out when i drive and not wen i am idle or when the car is below 90 degrees.

Can someone shed some light as to what isgoing on inside my engine to cause this as my mechanic wasnt able to explain it very well as he is foreign...

My car a diesel audi 80 has similar symptoms to yours but it also has lots of back pressure whem misfire occurs. My suspicions are that head gasket may
be gone allowing cylinder pressure to get in to crankcase. Only a theory.
I will be dismantling cylinderhead when weather dries up

it sounds to me that your exhaust has collected a lot of oil ,whch may or may not be caused by the piston rings of no 4 cylinder being u/s.
when you drive short distances, the exhaust doesn't heat up enough to burn the oil(hence no smoke), but upon heating up the oil will burn off and cause the smoke you describe.
this will continue until the cause of the oil loss/useage is determined,
    regards,
    stewy.
first time i was up a ladder i was down a well
    4th cog,--two to go
