My wife's 1996 Golf has central locking. The barrell on the drivers door just turns round and round and doesn't unlock. She has to use the passenger door which is a real pain with young kids.

Does anyone know what the problem might be and how easy it is to fix? The door lock fittings seem to be torx screws-is this where I should be starting?

Any help would be much appreciated!!!

hi there sorry i took so long to reply to this as had to registaer and so on
our question but back to your question.

yes you need to remove ththe torx screw and then proceed to remove the handle by sliding it forwad and and pulling and then you should have the handle and lock: attached to the back of the lock should be a hook with a bar wich turns the central locking. this is the normal thing to break on these and you can get them from gsf for about £1.50 there called door handle eccentric and the part no is 87525H

    hope it helps
