    fitted hid'd to my passat

i have used a relay kit instead cos i didnt want to take power from the actual main circuit!

heard to many bad stories about wiper motors blowing etc etc..

and has happened to my mates audi aswell!

so decided to wack them on a relay..

now i get a warning light on my dash saying my dipped beam is defective...

well thats gonna happen really and end have ended up a light on my dash.. (bulb failure light)

now is there a way to disable cold diagnosis of the lights...

so light error wont come up?

i no it can be done using vagcom... tried it a while ago and didnt work? was i doing somthing wrong?

also if anyone knows how to do it... in my area can they sort it? money your way of course

    thanks guys!

I would have thought you could use resistors to convince the ecu the bulbs are still there. I suppose it depends how you have wired up the relay. What triggers the relay and did you use two relays.

yeah ive used two relayes and it draws power from the car battery instead of the loom...

also i put warning cancellors inbetween the relay and the bulb loom

i just dont want to pull power from the loom itself...

even the good kits say they are ok i just still dont trust them

ive heard toooooo many bad stories on different forums..

i just wanna cancel the warning thing on the dash

other forums say summat to do with canceling the cold diagnosis using vag com and turning xenon without shutter etc?

does any no exactly how this is done with pics?

also the vagcom lead thats for about £20 on ebay will that work?

Vag-com share ware which the ebay leads use, does not work on the b6 passat because it has can-bus systems. Only a proper ross-tech dongle will work on your car. Roughly £260.00
Is that one relay for main and one for dip or one relay for left and one for right side. Taking power feed from the battery is a good idea but what wires are you using to switch the relays. If you explain more clearly what you have done, someone may see a simple solution.

Totally agree with Martin. Resistors should sort it. But to be honest as long as you have a good quality canbus free ballast you should be fine.

The wiper motor failure you talk of was not down to the Hid's just one of those things. As you can imagine the VW/Audi dealer will use any reason not to pay . I believe the wiper motor was used on the golf/A3 not sure if the passat had a faulty wiper motor/recall.

I'll butt in here about the wiper motor failure - I'm not saying that it IS the problem, but about a week after I fitted my HIDs, my wiper motor failed, in fact, I expected it as I'd done a lot of research up front.

The motor was, however, replaced under warranty....

The HIDs were binned about a month later and replaced with some good ol' fashioned bulbs too as I got bored with them cutting out when the full beam was put on. (Cycling the lights brought them back on, but that got real old, real fast).

I can only comment on what i have been told. Via a h.i.d specialist. Out of well over a 300 h.i.d kits that have been fitted/ 150 that have been supplied 10 have had failures and they were audi a3/golfs. There was a recall on the wiper motors apparently.

I have heard of one guy with an A3 that had 4 wiper motor failures and never had h.i.d's fitted.

He has the later type wiper motor fitted and has had h.i.d's fitted for nearly 2 trouble free years.

Based on that I would say faulty wiper motor.

Any one looking for h.i.d's may i suggest a soft start ballast. And kits thats are around £150 plus. You only get what you pay for.

Me and G black have the same h.i.d kits fitted to our passats they work great!!!!

I had a Ballast kit - £50 odd I think - they worked ok, but the full beam seemed to make them cut out.

Like you say, you get what you pay for.

They did, however, make the Passat look really good - Bizarrely though, the OH's Honda Jazz has proper Xenons.... Go fig....

My Dec 06 Passat was recalled within a couple of months to have some work done on the wiper motor - from memory to prevent the ingress of water.

    Honda Jazz

James, you may remember when I first joined the club I was very nervous about fitting them.

After purchasing mine and getting loads of info. I have a fair bit of knowledge now

My h.i.d's cost over £200 and would not suggest a cheap kit to anyone.
