Having decided to go for a solid flywheel conversion instead of a replacement DMF, I looked at the site of a well known manufacturer of the solid conversions. They don't list one for my car - a 2001 Passat 1.9 TDi. They only have a 1.8 listed.

In answer to an email, they replied that the 1.9 engine ended in 1998 and that 98 - 05 Passats are 1.8

This conflicts with the info I have for my car (shown below)

    Which is correct?

If they are wrong, I'm not sure I want to buy a flywheel from them - so any suggestions for a solid flywheel conversion?

They are wrong, you have a 1.9TDI as already stated.
I wouldn't bother dealing with them if they can't get the information right, there are plenty of reputable suppliers who will get the correct parts.
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

As I understand it, the 1Z engine in the Audi 80 tdi has a conventional flywheel, The 90 hp AHU engine in the early B5 passat/A4 may also be conventional, or may be DMF? - I've heard both arguments...
It's quite likely parts from an Audi 80/90/coupe petrol may be suitable? e.g 2.3 20v uses a 240mm friction plate which would probably be man enough for the job..

A solif flywheel conversion kit has been available for the B5 tdi for years. I think eurocar spares do one.

I see Eurocarparts have two listed on their site. Strangely enough they are both "Valeo" - and it is Valeo who have just told me there is no such thing as a 2001 1.9 Passat.

Thanks martin1810 - and thanks for the other replies too.
