    Hi Guys,

I've got a annoying problem with the interior lights automatically switching on when the door is opened. Problem is the only light that does switch on is the drivers footwell light. All the lights work when manually switched on.

This is baffling me as the footwell light comes on witch means the control system is seeing the door being opened but the other lights don't come on as well.

Anybody got any ideas on what's happening???

    Cheers, Bigwizz

I assume that you have the light switch in the middle position in the front and back??

Do all the lights come on when you unlock the car??

Did they used to light up but have recently stopped working, and if so have you changed any parts (no matter how small) or got the car serviced recently??

    Thanks for the reply Shane.

Yep tried all combinations of the light switch and also no lights come on when I unlock the car (well I haven't noticed the drivers footwell light)

I've only had the car for 3 weeks and they've never worked, and I never noticed when I first looked at it as it was daylight!!

I'll try checking bulbs etc at the w/e unless someone comes up with a "mine did that and the problem is....." post!!

    Cheers, Bigwizz

Currently on my car the buzzer isn't going on when i leave the headlights on and open the drivers door (with the keys out too) which is kinda in the same ballpark as your issue (bare with me here).

I've been told on here it is something to do with the door lock mechanism, even though like your car my car can tell when the doors are open and it will turn on the lights. This may seem odd, but i had the car in for a service at an audi dealership recently and thats whats they said too.

It seems that somehow audi door locks can tell that a door is open and yet it still won't activate all the things it should. In your case its all the lights not coming on, and in my case it's the buzzer not coming on.

When your door is open a few things should happen...

    1) - OBC (on board computer (if you have it)) in the dash shows a 'door open' graphic.

    2) - Red warning light on the outside edge of the door should turn on.

    3) - Front main interior light cluster should turn on (if set correctly)

    4) - Rear main interior light cluster should turn on (if set correctly)

    5) - Foot well light should turn on (driver footwell for drivers door, passenger footwell for passenger door (i think))

    6) - Door buzzer should activate when lights are left on without any key inserted.

It seems that any one of these 6 things not happening is attributable to the door lock having a fault of some kind; however, not all 6 will stop working if the lock does have a fault. To me this makes no sense, but i have been told this from a few different sources now.

Which of the above do work when you open the door??

Here's a link explaining the problem. Check out 'reido80's reply near the bottom...
