Hi just been to morrisons to fuel up and noticed in small print on the pump that there is 7% biodiesel added to their diesel, i also seem to recall reading somewhere that B6 Diesel Passats and biodiesel dont go well together.
Can anybody tell me at this low % would there be a problem over time with the running of thr car, is it something all the supermarkets due to reduce the fuel costs and keep the profits high.

The bio fuel issue from what I recall is a separate thing. This is where diesel contains 30% veg oil etc., and many leading manufacturers came out and said it would not work, and if used would invalidate warranties on fuel components. This is classed as Biodiesel (EN14214) on the forecourts.

Under the current EU law all conventional diesel fuels (EN590) have to have between 2.5 and 7% bio fuel in them. This has been legal since the turn of the year I think.

Stopped using supermarket diesel some time ago now because my 07 Passat was noisier and less responsive, and Morrisons and Tesco's were the worst by far. Started using Shell virtually exclusive (apart from the odd foray with BP) 12 months ago. What a difference in performance and economy. Now have a Passat CC - had the ECU re-mapped to 179 BHP and still use Shell. Fill it up every 4-5 tankfuls with V-Power diesel.
Friends and relatives have all done the same and found the same as me. You get better economy and performance from Shell.
p.s. - I don't work for Shell. Am lucky that there is a Shell filling station close to a Tesco station and it is always the same price or 1p per litre cheaper.

If it makes any difference I have used Morrisons Bio no probs. I also contacted VW HQ, gave my chassis number and confirmed that 100% Bio works no probs.

Hence I have been on 100% Bio since (except winter) - well under the normal diesel price.

Point to note is that my vehicle is older than those listed above - a 97 Sharan Tdi.

I'd confirm from the horses mouth first.

Hi m8 as stated above there is a sticker stating no biodiesel, mine smoked like hell when i used it.
for the past few weeks I have been using diesel from shell, tried some of there shell V+ and can definetely vouch for the fact that you do get more MPG in my case anyway I got an extra 7mpg doing the same regular run with similar conditions.
Downside £1.26 litre as suggested elsewhere in the forum I will run a tank full of V+ and then 4 tank fuls on normal shell diesel.

Whose libel if this bio mix kills someone's car?

And before anyone says there's a sign, the average motorist won't have a clue if the car is able to run on it, diesel is diesel to most folk, and nobody at VW says to you when you buy the car...don't use bio fuels do they, small print in a 2000 page manual isn't imo a good enough warning, it should be enblazened on page one in big letter's, that or there should be a list of engines posted on the pump that it's not suitable for.
