Hi all, I have searched for this, but no joy - so apologies if this has been covered before.

I have a 2003 A4 1.9TDi with 80K on the clock. When I am in traffic & working the clutch pedal quite a bit, I notice a thud when I let the clutch pedal out (sounds as if it's coming from the back of the car). Is this a fairly common thing, and is it easy to rectify.

    Cheers,
    Mark

No, It seems worst when I am sitting in traffic with the pedal down for more than 5 - 10 seconds.

sounds like the release bearing then..

not sure why it would sound to be coming from thr rear.. unless the knock vibration travels down the car..

I have the same problem with my A4 TDI 2001. I hear it specially when you accelerate and brake at slow speed in traffic. The previous owner told me this is the diesel in your tank which may be half full. I had it for more than a year.

I would says it maybe a sticky brake pad? piston?

OR it could be a losse engine mount which is transfering the noise down the car??

Or a lose exhaust "bung" which is flexing as the engine flexes when the clutch released..

Its hard to guess when its a noise!
