I have a 1993 Audi 80 the colour of which is clearly stated in the service book and the data plate in the boot as LY5O (or zero). I ordered a spray can from my local audi dealer, who verified the colour via the reg plate as "mountain blue". But when the spray can arrived it was LY5D "azurite blue", although they assured me it was the right colour. I checked with another audi dealer, and they couldn't find code LY5O (or zero), but confirmed it was mountain blue, and the code should be LY5D.

So I went ahead and dealt with the bonnet chips, but the paint supplied is clearly the wrong colour - darker and more steely than the car's blue. I checked again with the dealer and they assure me that no code exists LY5O (or zero), yet there it is, clear as day, in my documents.

Does anyone know of any issues with audi paint codes from this era? Or had any similar problems? And how can I get the right colour? Would be most grateful.

Hi thanks for reply. I have gone back to dealer, and done a fair bit of searching on the internet. Both avenues confirm that the paint code LY5O does not exist (there is LY5M, LY5N and LY5P, but no LY5O), yet my documents clearly state LY5O.

Sorry, can't help with the code, but you may have better luck at an auto-paint factors. many of them mix paint themselves which is loaded into aerosol for diy' ers like us, they should be able to match the paint on the car using colour 'chits' and come up with hopefully the real Audi colour?
To be fair to the dealer, sometimes there are many shades of the same colour, on the flipside, if it is a long way off then something is amiss..

I cant find any paint listed for LY5O (or zero) LY5D comes up as Azurite Blue and I cant find any Audi colour called Mountain Blue. At a guess it could be a misprint on the code in which case it could be LY5U which comes up as Gletscherblau avaialble from 1988-1993 its a metallic colour. Ive translated that into English for you and it comes back as Glacier Blue.

    Also there is:
    LY5B Kopenhagenblau (1983-1987 so doubtful)
    LY5K Brilliantblau (1988-2007)
    LY5H Merlot Blau (1990-1997)
    LY5Z Nautic (1987-1992) (metallic)

    I hope this helps you.
