    Hi all, 2001 TDI estate.
I know much has been written about central locking problems. For a while the rear drivers door lock has been intermittent, and yesterday the drivers door lock stopped operating off the remote. The passenger side and tailgate still work off the remote. The whole locking system still works off the key so I think the wiring is ok. Can anyone tell me exactly where the dreaded central control unit is located so I can look if there are any broken/corroded wires. I have tried disconnecting battery for 20 mins but no success. Thanks in advance.
    Geoff

It is under the passenger carpet. It is usually damaged wiring rather than a failed ccm.

Ok many thanks, hoped it was a bit further forward, not to have to raise to much carpet. Just need a dry day now.
    Best regards all, Geoff

At last a dry day, followed the guide - excellent, only a little damp under the carpet so it looks like the pollen filter leak is fixed. The only fault I could find in the wiring was two corroded solder joints. Each with one wire going to five. Five doors, so I had every hope. The wires are a bundle of orange/brown and orange/violet. Cut the wires back to copper and re-soldered the joints.
Hopes high, I reconnected the battery but still the same problem. Drivers door and rear drivers side door locks not operating on the plip key. The key will unlock all doors except the rear one. When I tried to open the rear door from inside, its stuck shut. Any more ideas what direction to go in ?
    Thanks in advance, Geoff

orange/brown and orange/violet are the can high and can low wires that communicate with the door modules. Assuming these are fixed ok., then the doors that don't open have faulty door modules or faulty locks.

Thanks for that. I have fixed the rear door, a corroded connector in the B pillar.
Taken the trim off the drivers door but no apparent wiring problems. Looks a nightmare to get the inner steel panel off, to get at the door lock. Think thats my last hope. Strange how the key operates all the locks, but if as you say the signal high low connections are ok it could just be the power connectors on the lock or the lock itself.
    Regards, Geoff
