First I apologise if there has already been a thread regarding this, but I could not find one.
I was supllied with two cables with my Mk6 Golf. One was an Ipod cable and the other a USB cable. My Ipod works great with the supplied cable but I also have a Sony NW-E005 MP3 player which I would also like to use in the car. When I connect the Sony using the USB cable supplied, the display on the radio says "No Data Files" and the display on the MP3 player shows that the device is just charging up. Does anyone have any ideas why this is.
    Many thanks.
    Phil

How do you transfer music to the sony player? If you just drag and drop then my guess is that the files on it aren't supported by the stereo (which leads me on to the question of what format is the music?). If you use sony specific software to transfer the music it could be that it is stored in some odd way that the car doesn't understand.

from my days of having a circular shaped Sony mp3 player i seem to remember that had a strange file type.

have you tried using the aux in socket on the outside of the armrest ?

Download a file converter from the Internet and convert all your files to mp3 ones if they're not already in that format.

<P> I have had the similar problem in the past with my sony walkman mp3 usb stick, it shows the device charging up but no music sometimes. To fix this I keep a small sawing needle and use it to press the reset button on the mp3 player, then I re-connect it again and the music plays.

I think this is something to do with song mp3 players and there internal software which has some issues with the MDI, when I use a normal USB non sony it works without any issues. When I mean normal USB I mean not a usb with a inbuilt mp3 player just a normal cheap usb

Does your can not have an AUX socket as well as the media adapter. You could connect the headphone output of the MP3 player to the AUX socket and listen to your music that way.
