Right..... the A4 is finally going.....

Looking at getting something similar size, A4 B7, Passat, maybe A6, also looking outside of the VAG stuff too..... just looking to see what's out there.... Volvo V50, 5 Series, C Class......

Looking to spend around 10k, any ideas or you got anything for sale...

    Cheers

    Rick

    Decided to take the plunge?

I know you were thinking of a B7 before.

There new shape 5-Series is out now so you will prob be able to get a decent spec 5-Series E60 for that price

yeah decided to go for it now and get a new one..

The problem im finding is all the B7's have too many miles on them for their age and price..

It's good that they hold their money, but 80k miles on a 5 year old car for 10k seems a lot of cash!

Any ideas on other options ?

Im thinking A4 B7 again.... I do fancy a 2.0TFSI Quattro...... only concern would be the MPG

TDI or Petrol is the question!

TDi all the way these days!

It all depends what you want.

Mine is a 2005 B7 2.0 TDi SE (140)... I know its not an s-line but I paid £9,750 from a garage and it had 47k miles on the clock and a full Audi service history.
It was an ex-demo so had the better sound system, bluetooth ETC.

I've had it for about 8/9 months now.

I was gutted because at the same time I saw an A6 2005 for £10,000. It was the 1.9 TDi SE (130) with leathers and 50k miles however I was too late for it... It was lovely... I think an A6 would be too big just for me to drive around in though.

Rick avoid the 2.0 pd diesel engine its unreliable and expensive to repair
Example, injectors £400 a pop, tandem pump etc etc
2.0 tfsi is a good engine but needs mapping to gain the best from it
As you know I see the best and worst but i would never buy a b7 with the 2.0 pd engine
vag diagnostics, retrofits and general repairs

Please excuse me for being stupid but is the 2.0 in a B7 not a BLB?

various 2.0 pd engine codes and all of them have different issues compared to the superior 1.9 pd engine.
The 2.0 pd lump is a bad second hand buy in my experiance with high repair cost from cracked cylinder heads to injector failure not to mention the oil pump gear issue.
1.9 pd supported in B7 is under powered and needs to be mapped as the tfsi engine is also under powered in b7 platform but so was the 1.8t engine in the b6.
There only five engines I would consider for a private buy B7.
    Tfsi(147 kw), 3.2, 4.2 (rs4) and 2.7 tdi & 3.0 tdi

are the 2.0 pd's really that bad for reliability? Having dealt with old(er) 1.9's I've come across the usual age-related issues, in fairness normally relating to the turbo and all it's gubbins <cough> and cylinder head thanks to a 12p bolt<cough>.

I'm a total n00b with the 2.0's, but the PD is being phased out with the CR lumps replacing it, no?

Its just disappointing after the 1.9 but the common rail in B8 is very good but for value and economy then the 1.9 pd 130 bhp engine is the clear winner.
I have dealt with far more failures with the 2.0 pd engine than any other vag engine so I base my opinion on experience and repair cost
