    Hi All
I am looking for an A4 Avant s line tdi. (2.0) (up to 70k miles)

I have a couple of questions for existing owners:

I am unsure whather to go for a quattro or 2WD -
Is there much difference on economy between the two?

Does the quattro cost any more on running costs, eg tyre wear, maintenance etc

Is the quattro system reliable, is there anything to look out for that wears out or needs attention?

    Hope you can help

    Kind regards

    David.

I have an A4 2.0 Tdi quattro 170 Sline SE
    - economy : - around 41 / 42 mpg on 15 mile runs on A roads. Others with 2wd report similar (or lower) returns so no major difference in mpg.

Running costs - there will be more tyre wear as all wheels are driven. On the plus side, items such as driveshafts are under less load (albeit more of them) as the power is split across four wheels.
Obviously there are more components that could fail as it is overall a more complex system.

My previous car was an Audi 90 quattro that I kept for 12 years it was so good .
By the time I sold it (when the car was 21 years old), it had covered 130 000 miles (100 000 by myself) - no issues with its quattro system. I hope my A4 will be the same.

You need to also consider the improved grip that the quattro system offers - absolutely superb in the winter, especially when winter tyres are fitted...

    Hope that this helps.

Wish I would have waited a bit a got a Quattro. Don’t get me wrong I love my car but its just that little final piece of the puzzle that would have made it perfect. I don’t think it makes much difference at all to mpg but I suppose you will have to replace your tyres more often as, from what I’ve heard, you wont be able to resist throwing it around roundabouts!
