Best Top End Speed 130 20v or 130TDI?

Hi, completly childish tread, but wondered what the top end is like on a 130tdi passat compared to my 130 2.0 20v petrol!

I had a bit of clear room on a motorway the other day and managed to clip 140 before a lump in the road convinced me to back off!

Dont think it had much if anything left above that, just wonderd if you TDI boys can do any better with a stock car?

Please note that my only mod is a piper cross pannel filter, I appreciate a 130tdi with a chip down pipe and filter can prob push out 190bhp and 1,000,000,000 flb torque but I dont consider a heavly modified example to be a fair race!

Told you this was childish, next we play mmines bigger than yours! lol

Hi, i've had an indicated 135 form my bora PD100 (remapped to 133bhp) on a private road (well airfield) and that was almost redlined in top gear (5th on the pd100).

I've found the speedo to be slightly out when compared to my sat nav... but only by about 2mph @ 40.... maybe 3mph @70, so my actual speed would have probably been closer to 125 / 130.

Not too sure, but my passat 130 sport runs out of revs pretty quickly. I have done 120 in mine, displayed on the sat nav, with more to go, but not too much more, the deisel gets a bit wheezy up there! But my power curve keeps rising nicely after the re-map all the way up to 4200 rpm.. Well it is re-mapped to 184bhp

Still don't think it will go to 140! Of course I could not try that on any British road..

I would say that both would top out about the same, but the diesel would be a better performer around the mid stage.

I do find my diesel to be great cruiser but my experience of petrol engine are always more favourable, i like revs!!!

See I though the TDI may have the edge on account of all the torque, I knew the mid range would prob be better on a tdi, but was'nt sure about the top end,

To be honest though the mid range performance from the petrol is very good, 45-100 is pretty quick but you have to get the revs up and go through the box to do it, you can just sit in 4th like a diesel and let the turbo pull you there!

Yes 4th gear is pretty good.. Have left a few BMW's and other cars breathing my smoke... Doesn't take long to do 40 to 80..

Tried a 0 - 60 test on my own with my stop watch the other day.. Managed 8.5 secs.. (Approx) Think it has to be the amount of low down gear changes.. First is gone in a second and then 2nd takes just a little longer..

May have to try a 40 to 80 test sometime and see what it does it in...
