    Hi all

    First post on here....

The ABS ECU unit on my 99 Passat 1.8T exhibited the usual symptoms of the flashing ABS, and brake warning light (becoming more frequent over time) with the fault code '01203' 'Electrical connection between ABS ans instrument cluster 03 10 - no signal- intermittent'

My mate attempted to fix it by soldering the loose wire inside the unit
(being the 'nothing to lose' option) but upon refitting it there is a
problem, his vag com now refuses to connect to the main ecu or the abs ecu (It connected perfectly well before) and the message 'cannot communicate' comes up

Before I get a 'proper' refurb carried out on the unit, can anyone advise
why a bodge of the abs ecu fix might cause the subsequent lack of communication with all the functions of the car?

Everything on the car works as it did before.

He tried the vag com on his audi straight after and it was fine, so there
    is no problem with that

    thanks.

    Hello and welcolme.
Something to do with the 2" wide soldering iron your mate used. Just a thought.
It was broken BEFORE i touched it honest!

I sent the abs control unit off to one of the well known refurbishers (not sure if I can name them on here?) and they said it was not possible to repair it.
They sent me another (later apparently) unit with the pump attached and everything has been fine since the fitting of it. No lights appeared when the ignition was turned on so it didn't even require connecting up to vagcom again to clear the fault codes.

I have bought a used pump and ECU with matching part numbers from a breaker but the lights are still on after fitting it - does it need to be coded to my car?

    Thanks
