    Hello,

I ve bought my first car,a 2003 mk4 5dr golf tdi 100 pd 2 weeks ago.The previous oil/fluids change done by the previous owner...and I got the papers with the details of what was changed then(october 09).That was done in a independent garage and judging by the prices he paid I doubt that the engine oil is a genuine vw oil(costed £20-4 liters) and since reading on this site that pd engines require special pd oil I was thinking to treat the car with the right oil .
Would not mind going to the dealers here in harrogate or even york, but I there is a independent vw garage that does a good job with genuine vw parts and save some money, that would be good.Don t know what you guys see things but for me,say if a independent dealer asks for example 350 and vw will do it for 400 I tend to go for vw dealers.Another thing is the price match thing in place at vw dealers where they say that they will match a quote in a 5 mile radius if the independent garage uses genuine vw parts.

    Any suggestions are welcome,
    Thanks,Alin

My personal opinion is to go with an independent VW garage anyday. The techies at the independent are almost always ex-VAG with many years experience. They get too expensive for VW, so they get replaced by trainees. Trainees have to train somewhere (errm, yeah, on your car). No ta, not for me. In my experience with VW, many-a-time if the computer doesn't display a fault code, they haven't got a clue (Computer says No...!) A technician with a few years under his belt quite simply understands cars better. </rant off>

Sorry, can't comment on them, as I'm on the south coast.
