Hi all, 2 issues to hopefully find the answer to on the wifes new 04 AWX Passat...
    1. is lumpy and a bit smokey on the first start up in the morning this clears itself after it warms up a little

    2. Engine seems a little droney at low revs(low speed), Ive checked the air filter and hoses etc as i had a similar prob on a 97 A4 where the air filter was not sealing correctly

    thanks in advance
    damien

    1. Possibly one or more glowplugs faulty/burnt out
    2. This is a common complaint usually related to the exhaust.

Have you recently got the car or has the noise just started?

Regarding the drone, I've got used to it and just live with it but if you do a search you'll find numerous threads.
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

1, Could be the glow plugs as macquatic suggested. Also look at the MAF/AMM sensor and coolant temperature sensor, as if these are out, it could result in lumpy idling when cold.

2, Have a look at your alternator belt and pulley. Take the alternator belt off and wedge a piece of wood inside the alternator fan blade within the casing. Now turn the wheel in both directions. If it doesnt turn in either, its shot. Also, have a look at your tensioner as these are prone to fail too. I had a low rev drone and this was the problem.
