I have a 2000 Alhambra TDI (115bhp). It has been used to tow a caravan from time to time. It now has 94500 miles on the clock and the clutch is causing problems, in short it will not lift to change gear. If the flywheel requires to be replaced and I am told it should be replaced if the clutch needs replaced, is there any reason why I should not replace it with a conventional assembly?

    Any comments would be welcome

    Thanks in advance

    Ivan

Mines went quite recently and they quoted me £1,600 for both. Couldn't get a conversion kit for my 130bhp but you may be lucky. Sourced parts from eurocarparts and the same garage replaced for £750.00.

hello mate im a caravaner myself...ive just replaced my dual mass flywheel and clutch and thrust bearing im not a mechanic but i am competent, please note to do this job you WILL need a jig to hold the flywheel so you can undo the bolts, i had access to a welder and steel bar so i could make a jig, i would have been beat without it.....i purchased the dual mass flywheel and clutch and hydrualic realise bearing from EUROCARPARTS THE COST FOR THE COMPLETE KIT WAS £380....£30 of this was for the hydraulic bearing it had to be bought seperate, i now have a smooth gear change and shudder free clutch i only needed help to reinstall the gearbox its a pig....worth the hassle saved myself £400 in garage labour costs.... one more thing to watch for is the clutch pipe over the top of the bell housing remove this before removing the gearbox as it can damage the connector joint at the hydraulic thrust bearing.....
