Why would you want to do it that way when you can just do it the proper way?

There is another way you can set them to the service position, turn the ignition on, flick the wiper and when the arms are vertical pull the bonnet and they will stop where they are. Turn the ignition off and change the blades. You can also safely push the arms down manually to park position if you wish as well. I witnessed it today, thats how my technician friend showed me.

No damage and the wipers still work ok, he has carried out that method all his working life.

But why would you want to do that protracted method - even if it works?
