    Hi,the high level brake light is not working on my gti, vw quoted £105 to replace. Is there a simple thing i could check 1st before paying this out

    Could be the brake pedal switch.
    2003 VW Golf Est 1.9 TDI 130 (gone but not forgotten after 367,000 miles)
    2006 Audi A3 2.0 TDI Sport 140

    If it was the brake pedal swich wouldn't all the brake lights fail

    Not necessarily, since internally the brake switch is actually comprised of two separate switches;

    Further, comparing the price of a brake switch change compared to the price you were quoted ...

    Thanks for that info. I had it scaned with vag com,that only bought up 1 code and that was to do with the cayalyic converter which i have had replaced and no more fault codes found. If it was the switch would it bring up a fault code. I dont want to replace the whole high level brake light as people have said the spoiler has to be removed for that and they usually mess it up
