A warning light thats not in my manual

A warning light has appeared on my display that I cant find in my manual. It is a yellow engine shape, on the right hand side. I have checked my manual and my partners A3 manual and cant find a thing. Any suggestions. The car is a 2001 version.

Your model may be fitted with an Oil Level and Temp sensor on the bottom of the sump. That's all I can find different form 98/99 to 01/02. Regards Peter

I looked it up in the Audi Manual set but it does not show you the symbol. Ask Audi.

by the sound of the display it's engine on get-home parameters, due to a faulty sensor. However audi should be able to confirm, or you can check if you have VAG - Com

I had that appear on my dashboard (an outline of an engine in yellow) and dropped into an Audi garage to check it out.

They said it was an engine warning light and all that it meant was that there was an engine fault recorded on the computer. They couldn't find it though

You need to drop into an Audi garage and ask them to put their puter on it to read the fault.

the symbol you describe is the EML light EML = Engine Management Light

there are various names for it, EMS, EML, diagnostic light, engine checklight, Limp home etc etc.

what it means is that one of the many engine sensors has deteced a fault and logged a code.

you need to get the car scanned and take it from there.

Thanks to all who replied, will be taking the car into my local friendly garage to put it onto the puter, and then take it from there.
