the 1.6 model as far as im aware for this period 03/04 onwards are fsi engines and there are a number of known problems with the engine which can be found in this forum. one of which being turning over the engine - the fsi engine (both 1.6 and 2.0) in my experience sometimes either do not start from cold or start, but then after running for 5-10 mins and then turning off when going to start again they just doesnt want to know. so try this out when test driving a few.

i had this problem with my 04 2.0fsi and it turned out to be just a faulty coil pack - bout 25 quid each. but beware the fault can lie elsewhere and be a little bit more expensive to resolve.

also if you're looking for car insurance adrian flux are a good place to start. norwich union quoted me £780 comprehensive for the 2.0fsi and im 22 - with a few convictions. adrian flux quoted me £510 with windscreen cover and full legal cover.

i paid £8250 for my 2.0 in sept 09 with 24k on the clock. if you can get a 1.6 with 50k for around 5500 - 6500 depending on condition and age id say you've done well.

    hope this helps
