A couple of days ago my instrument cluster started coming off and on, however it is now off 90% of the time i would say, when this happens, the speedo, rev counter, temperature gauge and fuel gauge does not work, however the clock and indicators and light signs do. I would appreciate any ideas on what the problem is

Hi, I had the same thing go wrong with my A3 1.9 TDi 130 about 2 years ago and it was slowly driving me mad. The electrical fault also affected the car alarm so it would go off about 15 mins after parking if I'd driven the car for a short distance and not given the engine a chance to warm up (or that's what it seemed like). If I drove longer and the engine warmed up it never happened so I used to find myself driving around at stupid o'clock to warm the engine up then get some sleep! If the needles flickered etc, the alarm would go off and if they never flickered I knew I would get some peace.

It was the instrument cluster itself that needed replaced. I enquired about getting one from a scrappy's but Audi need to match it to the key fob so they really need to do it. It cost me £150 at a main Audi dealer which I didn't think was too bad considering the hassle the fault caused me. It solved the problem and I'd put up with it for ages thinking it would be a lot more expensive to fix. Word of warning, mine started as the instrument cluster flickering once in a while to more regular and then to the alarm problem I described, getting more frequent the more I left it.

    Hope this helps.
