I've recently started having problems with the climate control "ECON" button in my A4 B6 1.9tdi. The ECON cannot be turned off. I push the button, the light goes out, then I release the button and the light comes back on again. I have been switching between no ECON and ECON regularly so I don't think there's a problem due to lack of use. I read on a older thread here that with ECON turned off and the Outside Air Temp is less than 5 degrees C an auxillary heater comes on - I've been using this on these cold morning and it works really well - I miss it now that its not functioning.

Anyone got any ideas? I'll be running vagcom on it this weekend so I'll see if there are any faults. Will post back if there is.

    Thanks!

I seem to remember that ECON stays on when the air con needs re-gassing? Could be wrong though.

Re-gassing sounds like it will be an expensive trip to my local Audi dealership? Are there any options to going to an Audi Dealership? Is this something that anyone has tried themselves?

Go to any air con specialist and they'll do it. It's not a big thing. They should also do a pressure test thing for you to make sure there's no leaks. Will probably be cheaper now than in summer as there's far less demand for their work.

Any Irish members out there know of any decent air con specialists in the Dublin / Midlands region? Or anywhere on this island for that matter?

I had this problem two weeks ago on my A4 1.9 Tdi.
I took it to my local air con chap who checked and found a sensor needed to be replaced. It did not need a regas. The sensor was about £70 I think and there was a couple of hours labour but it all works now.
    Good luck.

Vag it 1st to be sure, like boy said it could have a sensor fault, most likly needs a re-gas though. re-gas should ba about 40-50quid - make sure they don't just refill the system, you want a pressure test doing to make sure you have no leaks. you can buy a regas kit on ebay for about £15, but unless your 100% you have no leak then its a bit wasted, also wouldnt do this unless you know a bit about refrigeration - you could over fill the system.

Thanks Guys. I'll vagcom it and see what it says. Won't re-gas it myself as I've no experience whatsoever with refrigeration units. Plus I'd like to get the leak check carried out as well. I'll post my findings!

I have the same problem in my Audi A4. I tried the self re-gas but all was ok. These refil bottles come with a guage and it read 'full' To make sure, I emptyed the gas and refilled to correct level but to no avail.

Will be waiting to hear your findings on the fault reader.
