    Hi,

I have a 09 170 Avant S Line and am getting seriously annoyed with people flashing me. I drive from Derby to Liverpool on a regular basis and normally get flashed 5-10 times each way. I occasionally get a more serious situation where road rage is involved where cars pull out right behind me and drive extremely close with full beam on. It tends to be when I pass people on a dual carriage way or motorway not on coming traffic. Anyone else experiencing this?

    Matt

Is this during the day or at night?

If during the day I can't see why they would be uber annoyed at the DRLs, sure they are bright but not overly bright and they are there so people notice the car after all.

If at night perhaps your beams are misaligned giving the impression you are on full beam, although the Xenons are auto-levelled.

Or maybe they just don't like Audis

People do flash me regularly. The xenons are self-levelling, but they do seem to light up road signs at the side of the road quite high. I was going to mention it at my first service.

If you find that people are flashing you regularly then I would get my lights checked sooner than later as it is VERY distracting for other road users.

If you want to check them yourself (very rough method!!) then park your car car on a flat surface with your lights pointing against a wall (4-5 feet approx) If the flat beam of one of the headlights is slightly higher than the other then adjust it down (2 screws on headlamp unit and one adjusting screw (OUT- to lower the beam) then do up the other two srews making sure that you apply light pressure pushing the unit to make positive contact against the adjuster).
If both are too high (checked roughly by measuring the height from the ground to the center of the xenon lens and the flat beam must be a least lower) then suggest that you try a bit down at a time or go to a garage.

I don't have Xenons (they weren't on the SE options list at the time of ordering), but I did get flashed a lot during the previous Winter, so had the lights checked at the dealer.

Sure enough, the factory had set them too high! I put the height adjuster on setting 'I' until it was looked at - but you can't do that of course.

Anyway, worth getting it checked (on warranty).

The only other point, is if you have the lights at the AUTO on position. If it's anything like my Golf was it kept going on or off depending on surrounding light. I discovered this when following my Father in Law one day and he asked later why I kept flashing at him.

I would be sceptical that the Audi would be so sensitive in the AUTO position and would hope? that if the lights decide to come then they stay on for a pre-set time (or the xenon bulbs would simply be in a very bad state in a very short time!).
Even so if it is oversensitive AUTO lights, then they can be adjusted via MMI to come on Early or Late.

I get flashed all the time, s-line with Xenons. I think its because they are a lot brighter and some drivers assume you are on full beam. I also get flashed sometimes during the day just for having DRL's on. Normally from 30 something boy racers.

    Never been flashed.

Think the auto. lights come on too early though (even on late setting). Do not like my dials being unlit when it thinks it wants to tell me my lights should be on (very bossy car) as I've turned off auto..
