Hi all, found a serious problem with my 2000 1.9tdi, it has had the break pad wrning light on since I bought it but thought it must be due to corroded plugs on the warning cables, pads look very meaty looking through the wheels, Decided to get a closer look and clean up the connectors today but found a whole new problem!......

Front break pads are bigger than the disks so only 8 tenths of the pads are wearing the inside edge of the pads are just like new as the are not touching the disks. The edges of the disks are damaged as well. Moving on to the back the pads are too small and almost a third of the disks are rusted and untouched and a deep groove in the disk where the pads touch.

I know I have to get this done asap but now comes a problem...which disks and pads should it have? the front pads have lucas written on but are too big for the disks..or is it the disks are wrong and too small for the pads/?? I am guessing this is the most possible as I would imagine you could not fit lucas pads to different callipers?

Is there a definative way of finding which pads and what size disks I should fit too my car?

Hi, engine code is AJM 115bhp. I can only think that it must be the lucas set up otherwise the pads would not fit the callipers. Just need the disk size for the car. Pics will have to come later as I have just got it off the jacks and am freezing.

Just checked on Eurocarparts web site and I should have 288mm front disks I am guessing that I have 280mm fitted! which is the option for other engine codes.

Ok according to Eurocar parts I should have ATE callipers with 288mm front disks and 245mm Rear disks. Hope this is right as I am going to order them at £135 inc vat and free delivery, All Pagid make, just hope there is no other options for this year!

It ought to go back to whoever did this to the brakes to fix foc .My son bought a B6 last summer with full audi history and they had done the same so we had to change front pads and discs because he noticed some juddering under heavy braking. The previous owner had just toured france with his family without knowing and trusting sloppy audi workmanship!

Problem is finding out who done them last, disks might have been on there a while and I have had the car coming on a year, although it has full stamped service history how do you prove who put the pads in or the disks on with no receipt? I doubt they were done during the servicing at audi as they are after market pads. Gonna just have to suck it up. It re-enforces my attiude that I would rather have a car I have done everything my-self so I know it is done properly than full service history and find the cowboy mistakes along the way.

Thats just it so you need to sort.Seems like the rears have been on a long time unless the calipers are sticking.I think that I will consider a reliable specialist next time because the bolts seem to need a lot of shifting probably because the were over tightened last time.
