I know that mk2 golf engines will fit in a mk1 but will a mk3 engine also fit without changing the engine mounts?

    Thanks

The replacement engine is a for a mk1 karman it currently has a 1.5 or 1.6 depending if you believe the V5 or my local kwik fit?

Im looking to put anything diesel in but not only that i plan on running it on chip fat. There are several web sites listing compatable diesel/chipfat engines. My first step is to find out what will fit in the car.

The biggest problem so far is finding a scrap deisel mk1/2. There seem to be many more mk3 diesel about.

Im not actualy mad. Im an engineering student......

    Good luck !

I'd love to plonk a PD diesel lump into a MK1. Either that or an IHI'd 1.8t

    It would fly !

There are plenty of MK2 Diesels about. I saw several on Ebay recently. Go for the MK2 GTD if you want decent performance, it's a great engine and great with Biofuel. There seem to be less of the normally aspirated Diesel cars about as they just fall into disrepair. They're still good for Bio though.

Hi, slow but nearly finished. The engine and box fitted in with no problem, the exhaust however was a very different story. The main problem came from the choice of running gear and drive shafts. I originally chose to use MK3 shafts and so had to use MK3 hubs, rods, ball joints...... This does not work! If you do swap a TDi into a caddy the trick is to use the original drive shafts but the TDi bearings to connect to the gear box. As soon as my new brake master cylinder arrives I'm off for the m.o.t.
